Columbus, Ga. Enquirer, May 15, 1860.

"Who is a Gentleman-- A gentleman is not merely a person acquainted with certain forms of conventionality's of life, easy and self-possessed in society, able to speak, and act, and move through the world without awkwardness, free from habits which are vulgar and in bad taste. A gentleman is something beyond this. At the base of all his ease and refinement, and tact and power of pleasing, is the same spirit which lies at the root of every christian virtue.---It is the thoughtful desire of doing in every instance to others as he would that others should do unto him. He is constantly thinking, not indeed how he may give pleasure to others for the mere sense of pleasing, but how he can show them respect, how he may avoid hurting their feelings. When he is in society he scrupulously ascertains the position of every one with whom he is brought in contact, that he may give to each his due honor. He studies how to avoid touching upon any subject which may call up a disagreeable or offensive association. A gentleman never alludes to, ever appears conscious of any personal defect, bodily deformity, inferiority of talent, of rank or reputation, in the persons in whose society he is placed. He never assumes any superiority---never ridicules, never boasts, never makes a display of his own powers, or rank, or advantages; never indulges in habits which may be offensive to others".

I spent the day with my friend Brandon, since his wife Dieneke is out of town and we're both Portland orphans. We baked oatmeal raisin chocolate chip cookies, watched internet memes on youtube, he gave me school supplies for Christmas, and we watched "Fight Club".

Now I'm in a house full of strangers, care of my friend Dave (whom I've only just met) playing drinking games.

Good day <3

Dante's Inferno for Xbox
Dj Infam0us
12-26-09

I know I haven't posted anything in a long while about games and what not. I've really found it hard to find anything worth writing about in the game world in a while. That's probably because I play a very limited type of game, and I'm very very very picky about interaction. I'm picky because... well... I'm very limited on the amount of time I have to play. I spend more of my non day job time either djing or with my kids than anything else.

Well, I played the Demo for Dante's Inferno. A few things to note: it's third person. I usually HATE third person, and I find it ridiculous that games don't offer both perspectives. The tech is there. What's stopping the game designers? Well, this game is laid out a lot like The Force Unleashed. If you've played that game then you know that a lot of the camera angels are designed to maximize presentation. They don't really block your ability to get your combat groove on unlike in Ninja Gaiden 2 which btw SUCKED horribly as far as player interface.

Secondly, the combat plays out a lot like fight scenes from Tekken or Soul Calibur. You get combos with the grim reapers scythe, and an abundance of spells.

One of the biggest things I have to give the game designers kudos on is the balance of powers in this game. Many games incorporate the concept that you can attain "bad guy powers" which are almost always epic awesome cans of whoop ass, and "good guy powers" which usually are the equivalent of grabbing pompoms and taking the battle field with a skirt and a big KICK ME sign on. That is entirely untrue of this game. I did a quick over view of the powers that are available to both sides and they are comparable.WOW! That never happens. I mean, Nightwatch? Good game for the most part. The good guy powers ... sucked. Fable? Same from what I saw. Dante's? I prefer the good guy powers personally. :) and THEN you get spells. Holy hell. Literally. LoL.

A bit of a warming. There's some nudity in the game demo, and you get to hijack a demon beast, ride it around, and squish bad guys.

From an over 21 perspective? Thumbs hella up. Pass the rum and hand me the controller. I loooooooove this game. It's like The Force Unleashed meets Doom meets Tekken. Bring. It. On.

More later when I buy the damn thing. Also... I'll be reviewing Bio Shock 2 when I get it. From all the stuff I've read it should be as good as the first and the player interface is nearly identical. Yay for not changing a winning formula.

I'm getting worse and worse about remembering these annoying weekday games. Anyway, tonight:

TENNESSEE over San Diego.

As I type this, San Diego leads by a score of 14-3. My mojo has fled, it seems. Anyway, the rest by Sunday morning. Cheers.

After a week of silence, Luke called today. He and Shannon had been up at his dad's place in the more rural area of the farm-town he and I grew up in for the past 3 days, and he (understandably) didn't have any signal on his cell phone while up there. My dad used to have the same problem when he went to visit my grandparents out there. I'm really relieved, to say the least, I was starting to worry. He was his old self again and spoke of Shannon's next surgery being soon and how they have a car now, and they're planning on being out here at the end of January. Thank god I was worrying over nothing. I need to remind myself to chill the fuck out sometimes and not let myself get all worked up when I don't know what's going on.

My parents gave my brother and me a pair of tiny remote control helicopters and strict instructions to not terrify the dog.
The dog seems wholly unconcerned - I suspect, because so far the helicopters' escapades seem to be taking chunks out of my mother's plants and - the highlight of my skill - buzzing my father's head.

EDIT: My father now has control of my helicopter and the dog has evacuated the room. Manic laughter abounds. Best. Gift. Ever.

Happy Holidays!
Enjoy yourselves, whatever it is you're doing!

I have to admit that this December wasn't looking very good. Bad luck was piling on bad luck, until I felt like I had somehow started an invisible count-down to an early grave. It seems, however, that everything was just clearing out of the way, leaving space to celebrate new, better foundations. There has been a bright side to every disaster. Because I was let go, I'm able to spend the holidays with Tony, who's been saving up his use-it-or-lose-it Microserf vacation, and go with him to San Diego to see our friends, Mutaytor, perform with Rabbit In The Moon on New Years Eve at Evolve. Because my life crashed down all at once, I have been surrounded by love and care and support beyond my wildest dreams. I'm currently wearing a little silver frog ring and a pair of swooningly soft groverskin socks from Karen, for example, who sent me such a beautiful treasure package that I came down with a mild case of the weeps as I was carefully opening all the enchanting layers of ravishing colour and glee.

Thank you, my loves, my friends, my acquaintances, and you strangers. Thank you for everything!

Happy holidays everyone! "Sherlock Holmes" the movie is opening Christmas Day, and I just managed to finish this painting in time.

Completely original painting of Robert Downey Jr. as Sherlock Holmes, looking very steamy (in more than one way), with a curved pipe (even though they won't be using a curved pipe in the movie).

Preview:

For full painting and details, please visit my entry here.

The painting is available as a limited edition 11x14" print, faithfully and masterfully reproduced by fine arts printers on Fujicolor Crystal Archive paper. The print will be priced for a limited time at $20, not including shipping. It will look absolutely lovely matted in black and framed, making it a steamy addition to your home.  If you are interested, please message or comment!

She was being transported to another hospital, when she began coughing so hard she went into cardiac arrest, and died.

Merry Effin Christmas!

After looking up the TSA's policies on transporting the deceased, I now know I have to put her in a wooden or plastic box so she can be screened, or else I can't take her on the plane to Mexico.

Life is so funny sometimes. The mother-in-law of the head Producer of Starcraft 2 died on Thanksgiving morning, so now we'll get to battle it out on whose mother had shittier timing. These goddamned showboating women.

RIP Graciela Margarita Cruz Lopez de Wolff. You had a swell life and a tragic end, and Phill and I hope you've finally found what you've wanted for the last year. A lot of peace and quiet. I'll take it from here.

There has been scheming afoot. Mad, mad, undeniably wonderful scheming. Ray, mostly, though with some other people, like James and Nicole and Tony. Scheming, I might add, to replace the sadly lost camera. (If you wish to be part of this crusade, I can put you in contact with him.)

To this end, Ray has been doing some rather serious research, and has presented me with a rather serious question, which I have seriously researched, but have been too overwhelmed to immediately answer in reply. (How could I, considering? Wow. Just, wow.)

So I turn to you, dear internet, to help sway me off the fence of panicked indecision before the nondenominational shopping glory of boxing day passes. In your so humble opinion....

This year's card. Brought to you by my mother's collection of Santas (you can see a very, VERY small sampling of her grand collection here), and Millions of Cats - Wanda Gág in 1928 (Great children's book, one of my favs)

Anyone new to my list, this is a tradition I've been doing for a few years now. I draw up a card, mail out a handful of them to family and friends.

This year's HRI:UNArts holiday message is "Focused on Progress by Bridging Unmet Needs to Untapped Resources in our communities." Please reach out to your family, friends, neighbors and front line service programs, define their unmet needs and be a part of solution oriented strategic planning and development of efforts that can help. Many times, just disclosure of a need can help those who have the resources, move them into action.

During this next year, the Humanitarian Resource Institute United Nations Arts Initiative, will be working to establish grassroots organizers to specifically target the scope of unmet needs in a community or region.... This means 3100 U.S. counties, 50 states and territories, 192 United Nations member countries. The arts community will be the source for intensive facilitation, communications initiatives, media events, and performances. More to come.

Wishing you a blessed holiday season and happy new year,
